PA66 (Nylon 66) has a higher melting point, typically in the range of 260°C to 265°C, and a glass transition temperature (Tg) around 50°C in dry conditions. Its density ranges from 1.13 to 1.16 g/cm³.
 
PA6 (Nylon 6) appears as translucent or opaque milky white particles with a lower melting point of approximately 220°C. It boasts a high thermal decomposition temperature above 310°C and a relative density of about 1.14. A key characteristic is its higher water absorption, around 1.8% after 24 hours in water. It offers excellent wear resistance, self-lubricity, high mechanical strength, good heat resistance, electrical insulation, and outstanding low-temperature toughness, along with self-extinguishing properties and good chemical resistance, particularly to oils.
 
The primary differences stem from their molecular structure; PA66 has a more symmetrical chain and a higher density of hydrogen bonds, leading to stronger intermolecular forces. This makes PA66 superior in terms of mechanical strength, thermal resistance, and rigidity. Conversely, PA6, with a less symmetrical structure, offers better toughness, a wider processing window, and superior weather resistance. However, PA6 typically absorbs moisture more quickly and has slightly inferior dimensional stability when wet.
